Abbey Cemetery

Clane’s "Abbey Cemetery" with ruins of the Franciscan Friary. The Friary was founded in 1258 by Gerald FitzMaurice, Lord of Offaly, and a general Chapter was held here in 1345. (The Franciscans didn’t have abbots, only priors, so it shouldn’t really be called an "abbey".) Another view of the ruins.
