Who is he?

Been there, done that might fairly sum up Hermann's biography in a few words. Born in Germany, he came to live in Ireland in 1966. After initial academic ventures into Classics, Theology (Marburg) and Agriculture (St Paul, Minnesota), and a quite kaleidoscopic early professional career as an army officer, farmer, falconer and publican, he went back to school as a mature student to study for a degree in Science, majoring in Psychology, at Trinity College, Dublin. The degree was followed by a Higher Diploma in Education at what is now NUI Maynooth. Hermann then taught Science and German in a Community School for twenty years before taking early retirement.

With a keen interest in ecology, geology, archaeology and historical geography, Hermann now works as a tour guide during the season, taking groups from German-speaking parts of Europe to Ireland's touristic hot spots, and devotes the remaining time to writing, walking, swimming and photography. He has given talks on local archaeology and road research to a number of local history groups.
